Swimmers made waves for charity as they took to Tendring’s pools for Swimathon 2025.

Dozens of swimmers took to the waters at Clacton Leisure Centre and Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles, which are run by Tendring District Council, for the challenge.

The nationwide event raises funds for Cancer Research UK and end-of-life charity Marie Curie.

Councillor Mick Barry, TDC’s portfolio holder for Leisure and Public Realm, said: “Swimathon is the world’s premier fundraising swim and I was thrilled to see TDC pools actively participating.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who took part in this remarkable event, which supports two incredibly deserving charities.

“The weekend was filled with impressive accomplishments from individuals and teams at our pools.

“My gratitude goes out to all participants and the organisers who made this event possible.

“While the exact amount raised at our pools is still being tallied, nationwide, thousands of swimmers have already contributed over £739,000.”

So far, almost £450 has been raised by participants at the pools in Tendring, with the fundraising deadline set for April 29.

Swimathon 2025 took place at more than 450 venues across the UK on March 28-30.

The virtual MySwimathon challenge – for which participants can sign up to take part in their own time - runs until April 21.
