A star from newly released Amazon Prime movie Midas Man – charting the life story of the so-called ‘fifth Beatle’ – has returned to Clacton to inspire his successors at the Princes Youth Theatre.
Jonah Lees, who plays John Lennon in the new biopic about the life of music entrepreneur Brian Epstein, was warmly welcomed back to the Tendring District Council-run (TDC) Princes Theatre by students and tutors of the youth theatre.
Jonah returned to his roots to inspire the next generation of performers, sharing invaluable insights with the young talents of the theatre where he first discovered his passion for acting.
The 28-year-old, who also appeared in the TV series Borgia, began his showbiz journey aged just six – alongside his twin brother and fellow actor Christian - at the Princes Youth Theatre.
He went on to study at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London before pursuing a career in the United States, where he now lives.
Returning to the UK for the premiere of Midas Man, Jonah took this opportunity to reconnect with the youth theatre and its current students.
During the session, Jonah reflected on his own experiences and shared audition tips, industry insights, and practical advice on handling stage and screen nerves, captivating the young thespians with stories of his own career challenges and triumphs.
“It’s truly special to come back to the place where it all started for me,” Jonah said.
“The Princes Youth Theatre gave me a foundation of love for the arts, and I hope I can inspire these young actors just as much as this theatre inspired me.”
He encouraged students to stay passionate, resilient, and open to learning - key qualities he developed during his early years at the Princes Youth Theatre.
Councillor Gary Scott, TDC Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Heritage, said the youngsters were thrilled to meet Jonah and have the chance to put their questions to him.
"The Princes Youth Theatre remains committed to supporting young talent, raising their aspirations and providing unique opportunities to learn from professionals in the field,” he said.
“Jonah’s Q&A session stands as a testament to the lasting bonds formed in this community and the power of returning to one’s roots to inspire others.”
The Princes Youth Theatre is a vibrant, inclusive space for young people to explore their creative potential through performing arts.
The theatre provides classes and workshops as part of its aim to cultivate local talent and fostering a love for the arts.
