Tendring District Council (TDC) is calling on residents to pledge to pick one bag of litter - or more - for Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean.
The council is backing a bid to pick litter from the district’s streets and public spaces during Britain’s favourite environmental charity’s clean-up campaign.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign, which runs from 21 March to 6 April, is calling residents across Tendring to show they love where they live by taking part in the mass action litter pick.
TDC will be helping local people as they pledge to pick one bag or more of litter from streets, parks, beauty spots and beaches in order to protect our vibrant communities and precious wildlife habitats.
Adrian Smith, TDC Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "We are incredibly proud of the community spirit shown by our residents in keeping Tendring clean and beautiful.
“Our district is home to stunning Blue Flag beaches and Green Flag parks, which are vital habitats for wildlife and cherished spaces for all of us to enjoy.
“By participating in litter-picking initiatives, you not only help maintain the natural beauty of our area but also foster a sense of pride and ownership within our community.
“We encourage everyone to join these efforts, whether by supporting existing groups or starting your own clean-up events.
“The council is here to support you with equipment and rubbish collection, so please reach out to us.
“Championing our environment and helping people to take pride in where they live runs through everything that we do.”
The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “We are so grateful for the game-changing support from Tendring District Council.
“The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for councils to support residents to really show their pride in where they live, and connect with like-minded people, while taking serious and immediate action to protect the environment on their doorstep.
“During this year’s campaign, we are highlighting that the environment belongs to everyone, and that everyone is welcome to join in with our activities and celebrate the 10th Great British Spring Clean.
“We are humbled to see our army of #LitterHeroes volunteers carrying out these acts of kindness to make the planet a cleaner, safer place for our future generations.”
For those interested in organising a litter picking event, TDC has a supply of litter pickers, hoops, and bags and can also arrange for the collection and disposal of collected waste. Please contact us on 01255 686788 or email recycle@tendringdc.gov.uk.
