Residents and beachgoers on the Essex Sunshine Coast are being invited to join the Tendring Great British Beach Clean this weekend.
The clean-up will take place at beaches from Harwich to Jaywick from 10am on Sunday, 22 September.
The nationwide initiative is organised by the Marine Conservation Society and will see volunteers from a host of local organisations roll up their sleeves to tidy our beaches, including Harwich Litterpickers, Weeley Womblies, Walton Wallys, Frinton Frombles, the Holland-on-Sea Bluetits, Clacton Volunteer Litterpickers, Clacton River Ninjas, Tendring Primary Recycling and Jaywick Sands Litterpickers.
Adrian Smith, Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Cabinet Member for Environment, will be taking part in the initiative for the fourth time.
He said: “It is a real shame that rubbish is left on our beautiful beaches and I would firstly appeal to people to dispose of their waste responsibly.
“I’m pleased that so many local groups are taking part in this initiative and would like to thank every single volunteer for helping to make out district a more enjoyable place to live.
“You get a real sense of pride by coming together to play a part in helping to remove rubbish from our beaches, making our coast look better and making our seafront safer for visitors and wildlife.
“Championing our environment and helping people to take pride in where they live runs through everything that we do.”
The volunteers are working with Rivercare Beachcare, Cleanup UK, Keep Britain Tidy and Anglian Water on the initiative, while TDC is providing equipment and waste bags.
