The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) creates and maintains the Non-domestic Rating List. This includes setting the rateable values of business properties such as Shops, Offices, Public Houses, Warehouses, Factories and Self-Contained Holiday rental homes or Guest houses.
You will be liable for business rates if you use a building or part of a building for non-domestic rates purposes.
To see how the rateable value on your property has been calculated please visit: How your rates are calculated - Gov.uk
For more information regarding business rates visit: Introduction to business rates - Gov.uk
Please note that as of 1 April 2023 the way Holiday homes are rated has changed please refer to the Governments advice via the following link:- Self-catering and holiday let accommodation - Gov.uk
Should you wish to register your property as a holiday let you can do so by completing the questionnaire found using the following link:- Application for business rates for self-catering properties (applies to England) - Gov.uk
If you disagree with your rateable value, you will need to contact the Valuation Office Agency directly rather than us. The Valuation Office Agency have introduced a Check/Challenge/Appeal process to make it easier for you to appeal the rateable value for your business/premises.
If you think that something is incorrect with your assessment you can ask the Valuation Office Agency to check the calculation, and if you disagree with the revised assessment, you can Challenge it. This process is solely dealt with by the Valuation Office Agency, and we are unable to help with this process. We will only be notified of the outcome once the matter has been resolved.
You can find the Check/Challenge process via the VOA’s website - Find a business rate valuation - Gov.uk
You can contact the VOA directly on 03000 501501
Or you can complete their online form contact VOA - Gov.uk
