The Register of Electors contains all the names of those eligible to vote in Tendring. If your name does not appear on the Register you cannot vote.
There are two versions of the register produced, the full register and the open register also known as the “Edited Register”.
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in Tendring. The register is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only eligible people can vote. It is also used for other limited purposes specified in law, such as:
The open register is an extract of the electoral register, which only includes electors who wish to appear on this register, but is not used for elections. It can be bought by any person, company or organisation. For example, it is used by businesses and charities to confirm name and address details.
Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for them to be removed.
You can opt out of the open register, this is the version of the register that’s available to anyone who wants to buy a copy. If you opt out it does not affect your right to vote OR your credit score. Please contact the Electoral Office on 01255 686566 if you wish to opt out.
For more information on purchasing the open register please contact the Electoral Office, please note an official request must be submitted in writing.
The published registers is available for inspection at the Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton on Sea, Essex CO15 1SE.
