Essex County Council Elections - Postponed

Essex County Council applied to the Government to postpone the elections due in May this year. This is a side-effect of Essex County Council (alongside Thurrock and Southend City Councils) applying to join the Government’s 'Devolution Priority Programme' though which a directly-elected Mayor for Greater Essex is to be elected in May 2026.

The planned elections to Essex County Council will NOT now go ahead on 1 May 2025.

Consequently, the next scheduled elections for electors in the District of Tendring would be on Thursday 7 May 2026.

Further details will appear here in due course.

The Local Authorities (Changes to Years of Ordinary Elections) (England) Order 2025 came into force on 4 March 2025.

The Order postponed elections to East Sussex, West Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey, and Thurrock, for one year and extends the terms of incumbent councillors accordingly.
