What is the Community Asset Rent Off Setting Scheme?

It is an initiative where the Council can offer a grant to tenants of its own land and buildings to off-set the amount of rent paid.

Do we qualify?

If you can demonstrate that your organisation contributes to the economic, social and community well-being of the district and its residents, then we can offer you a grant to help reduce the amount you pay. At present the scheme off-sets the payable rent to £500 or 25% of their current rent (whatever is the greater).

What kind of things would contribute to the wellbeing of the district?

Your organisation would need to demonstrate that it contributed to:

• the Council's priorities;

Here are just a few examples:

• Increasing participation in sports, leisure or cultural activities,
• Helping keep the community safe
• Giving children and young people a good start in life
• Helping the disadvantaged

We will continue to review the scheme from time to time to check that it continues to support the priorities for the district and that rent levels are appropriate. You will not need to re-apply every year and your rent reviews and/or lease renewals will continue at the same time as they have done before.
