The candidates standing in the by-election for the Walton ward on Frinton and Walton Town Council have been confirmed.

Voters in the ward are heading to the polls on Thursday, 12 September.

The Statements of Persons Nominated has now been published, revealing who will be contesting the vote.

The candidates for the election of a parish councillor for the Walton ward on Frinton and Walton Town Council are:

  • Knowles, Fiona Ann (ReformUK – Changing Politics for Good)
  • Oxley, Pierre James (Independent)
  • Taylor, George (Labour Party)

Now the list of candidates has been finalised, arrangements for printing the ballot papers can commence.

People wishing to vote in the upcoming by-election and who are not already registered have until Tuesday, 27 August, to do so.

Voters requiring a postal vote and those looking for a proxy vote have until 5pm on Wednesday, 28 August, to apply.

Electors in Ardleigh and Elmstead will also be going to the polls on 12 September to vote in referendums on Neighbourhood Plans for their parishes. Residents in those parishes can also register to vote and apply to vote by post/proxy and the same deadlines apply as they do for the Walton by-election.

A Neighbourhood Plan is a way for communities to take a proactive approach to deciding the future of the places where they live and work.

Once adopted a Neighbourhood Plan has the same legal status as the district wide Local Plan and will be used alongside it in deciding planning applications that fall within its area.

Returning Officer Ian Davidson is urging voters in the Walton, Ardleigh and Elmstead to make their voices heard on 12 September.

“Those in Walton who have a vote next month will decide on who will represent them on Frinton and Walton Town Council, while voters in Ardleigh and Elmstead can have their say on shaping the future development of the villages,” he said.

“People should take the time now to make sure they are registered to vote and, if voting in person at a polling station, that they have a valid photo ID.”

The Statements of Persons Nominated for the by-election and information about the referendums is available on Tendring District Council’s website at http://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/elections.
