Urgent road repairs to take place in Jaywick's Brooklands thanks to £5k grant

Tendring District Council (TDC) is set to arrange essential patch repairs on a potholed road in Jaywick later this month.

The works are scheduled to take place in Brooklands, between Tamarisk Way and Midway, on 25-26 February, depending on weather conditions.

The £5,000 project, funded by Essex County Council’s (ECC) Locality Fund for 2024/25, will involve temporary road closures of up to 15 minutes at a time at various points during the works.

This funding was secured by the division’s county councillors Mark Stephenson and Paul Honeywood to address the deteriorating road surface in the unadopted area of Brooklands, which has worsened over the years due to the lack of an identifiable landowner.

The urgent repairs are expected to enable the resumption of bus services in the area, which have been disrupted by large potholes.

Councillor Mark Stephenson, TDC Leader, said: "We are delighted to see these much-needed repairs finally taking place in Brooklands.

“This initiative is a significant step towards improving the quality of life for our residents.

"We are grateful for the community's patience and understanding during these repairs, and we are confident that the long-term benefits will far outweigh the temporary inconvenience.

“As well as improving the overall road safety, it is hoped that the completion of these repairs will mean that normal bus services can be restored.”

Councillor Tom Cunningham, ECC’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport, added: “I’m very pleased to see Tendring District Council carrying out much needed repairs on this unadopted road.

“It’s clearly an issue for local residents and users of the road, and I’m sure the repairs will make a significant difference to travelling in the area.”

The grant has been allocated to TDC to ensure the work is carried out properly on the unadopted road, but a report stated that neither ECC nor TDC can commit to further or future repairs beyond the current works.

Last October, Hedingham and Chambers had to alter its No 4 bus route, which runs through Brooklands, due to a large pothole.

Updated: Please note the works are not taking place on 24-25 February, as previously reported, but will be taking place on 25-26 February.
