An updated version of the draft Place Plan for Jaywick Sands has been published.

Tendring District Council (TDC) is preparing the document to shape development in the area.

The initial version went out for consultation in Autumn 2022. Since then work has been ongoing to consider the comments made, and factor in updated information from partners.

The updated new version has been published as part of the agenda for the Planning Policy and Local Plan Committee meeting being held on Thursday, 5 October, and is available to view at https://tdcdemocracy.tendringdc.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=340&MId=2301.

It will be considered by the committee and then Cabinet, before going out for a final round of public consultation this Winter, subject to Cabinet approval.

Andy Baker, TDC Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing, said he looked forward to considering all of the comments raised by the committee and public.

“Extensive work has gone into the development of this draft Place Plan, including consideration of all of the comments made by the public in last year’s consultation, so we are keen to see what people make of the new document,” Cllr Baker said.

“I would emphasise that the Place Plan is a long-term strategy for Jaywick Sands – this is not something that can be delivered overnight, nor without considerable funding.

“However, once adopted, it shows potential funders that we have a serious plan in place to build upon the existing good work we are doing to tackle the challenges faced by Jaywick Sands.

“This work includes building new council homes, the just opened Sunspot commercial workspace, and our Healthy Homes initiative to drive up the quality of housing and the local environment.

“Subject to support from the committee, and Cabinet, I would encourage people to engage once again with the next round of consultation – we are very keen that our approach is done collaboratively with the community.”

The Planning Policy and Local Plan Committee is open for the public to attend, and begins in the Committee Room of Clacton Town Hall at 6pm on Thursday, 5 October. People can also watch a live stream of the meeting here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qb0lDEIrqpM.
