Tendring District Council (TDC) is once again bidding for prestigious Green Flag awards for its magnificent gardens.

The council’s Open Spaces team is striving to maintain the accolade for four of its beautifully managed gardens, all of which proudly retained their Green Flag status last year.

The four cherished sites vying to keep their Green Flag are Clacton Seafront Gardens, Crescent Gardens in Frinton, Cliff Park in Dovercourt, and Weeley Crematorium Gardens.

The Green Flag Award Scheme is a nationally recognised benchmark for excellence in parks and open spaces.

Any publicly accessible area with a dedicated management plan is eligible to apply.

These spaces are evaluated on several criteria, including their welcoming nature, cleanliness and maintenance, security, sustainability, and community involvement.

TDC’s open spaces are meticulously managed by a dedicated team of staff, bolstered by volunteer groups who tirelessly contribute their time throughout the year to ensure these areas remain in top condition.

Mick Barry, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Realm, highlighted the essential contribution of local communities to this initiative.

"Our Open Spaces team works tirelessly throughout the year to maintain the beauty of our gardens, but their success relies on the support and participation of local community groups and volunteers," said Councillor Barry.

"Their combined efforts make these areas lively and welcoming for both residents and visitors, who often praise the excellent planting.

“It is only right that this dedication is acknowledged with Green Flags, and I am hopeful that the judges will be impressed once more this year.

“Maintaining these beautiful gardens aligns with our commitment to champion our environment and to attract visitors to our area.”

Judging for the Green Flag takes place in early summer, with the results announced later in the season.
