Tendring4growth business fortnight to champion local firms

A series of business events are being held by Tendring District Council (TDC) this Autumn.

The TENDRING4GROWTH Business Fortnight will see seminars, networking events and a jobs and skills fair take place to champion different sectors and fantastic hidden businesses from across the district.

Ivan Henderson, TDC Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration & Tourism, said there was an event for every business to come along to.

“Businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy, and we are fortunate to have such a variety of sectors operating in Tendring – from tourism to manufacturing, and farming to energy generation,” Councillor Henderson said.

“That is why we are holding this fortnight, covering a vast range of topics, to not only take a moment to celebrate what is good, but also look at how we can work together to grow our economy.”

TENDRING4GROWTH’s Business Fortnight launches with Spotlight on Tendring on Monday, 25 September from 10am-12.30pm at the Sunspot in Jaywick Sands. Cllr Henderson will introduce the fortnight and new facility, whilst inspirational speakers will discuss their business journey, and information on district-wide business support shared.

This is followed by a Coastal Tourism event on Tuesday from 10am-1pm in Harwich, led by the Harwich Tourism Group sharing how partnership working has helped their businesses to grow together.

A Digital and Independent Retailer seminar takes place on Wednesday in Holland-on-Sea from 10am-12.30pm, with experts giving advice on online selling and cyber security.

The popular Tendring Jobs and Skills Fair returns to Clacton’s Princes Theatre on Thursday from 10am-4pm in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). With more than 45 organisations in attendance there will be a large variety of jobs and training opportunities on offer from diverse sectors.

Week two begins with a Women in Business event on Monday, 2 October at Clacton Leisure Centre from 9.20am-2pm with Eve Calderbank, ECC’s Principal Economic Growth Officer and creator of Ambitious Women in Essex (AWiE), sharing routes to support and celebrate the success of Essex women in business.

A trio of events take place on Tuesday. Harwich will host a Creative and Culture event from 10am-12.30pm with speakers from Arts Council England and Clacton Creatives, and one-to-one appointments to discuss funding opportunities.

The Military Employer Recognition Scheme will be the subject of an event from 10am-12pm in Holland-on-Sea, followed immediately by a session looking at how businesses can be part of the Disability Confident scheme.

Innovation: A Freeport East, Industry & Innovate UK Edge Perspective takes place on Wednesday in Wix from 10am-12.30pm, exploring how the freeport will boost global trade for local business.

The fortnight ends with the invite only TENDRING4GROWTH Business Awards ceremony on Thursday, supported by headline sponsor, Colbea. Nominations for this year's Tendring4Growth Business Awards are now closed and being carefully considered.

Councillor Henderson added: “I hope that we see plenty of people sign up for these events, which are not to be missed.”
