A series of events celebrating and supporting Tendring business has begun.
As an accredited member of the Disability Confident Employer Scheme, awarded by the Department for Work and Pensions, and as a Gold Award holder in the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, TDC is well-equipped to champion the benefits of inclusive employment with local businesses – and is doing so with two events as part of the fortnight.
Led by TDC’s Human Resources department and taking place on Tuesday, 3 October at Kingscliff in Holland-on-Sea, they will start with the Military Employer Recognition Scheme from 10am to 12pm.
Representatives from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Career Transition Partnership (CTP) will discuss the scheme, and how reservists and veterans can bring a variety of transferable skills to the civilian workplace to benefit local employers.
The Disability Confident event will follow from 12noon to 4pm, exploring how the Disability Confident employer scheme from the Department for Work and Pensions can support businesses to provide a range of benefits. Benefits include drawing from the widest possible pool of talent, reducing staff turnover, securing and retaining high quality staff, and improving employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that a business treats all employees fairly.
Speakers will also include a representative from ECL’s specialist Inclusive Employment team and Claire Jennings, a local counsellor who has lived experience of having a disability and working professionally in this sector.
Councillor Gina Placey, TDC Cabinet Member for Partnerships, encourages as many businesses as possible to come along to the events.
“Hiring and retaining employees with disabilities provides a range of benefits,” said Councillor Placey.
“It is good for business to recruit highly talented and motivated employees with disabilities, to benefit from commitment and expertise.
“Equally, ex-forces candidates with a strong work ethic, bring the values taught in military training to the workplace and provide a strong talent pool for potential employers.”
The Tendring4Growth Business Fortnight, run by Tendring District Council (TDC), includes seminars, networking events and an awards evening to champion different sectors and fantastic hidden businesses from across the area.
