On the week of December 30, households which usually see their waste collected on the Monday will see it collected one day later, while those which usually have it collected from Tuesday to Thursday will see their collection two days later, with the usual Friday collection that week taking place on the following Monday (6 January).
For the week beginning Monday, 6 January 2025 collections will be a day later than usual, with Friday collections taking place on Saturday (11 January).
Collections resume as normal from Monday, 13 January 2024.
For households’ first black bin collection after Christmas each home can put out an extra two black bags of side waste, in recognition of the additional waste and recycling generated over the festive period.
For Christmas trees St Helena Hospice is again running its Treecycle service across most of Tendring, covering the CO7, CO11 to CO16 postcodes. Households in these areas can book for their tree to be collected on the weekend of 10-13 January in return for a donation to the charity. To find out more and to book visit sthelena.org.uk/how-you-can-help-us/events-and-challenges/treecycle-2025.
Households subscribed to the garden waste brown bin service are reminded there are no collections over the Christmas and New Year period, but they can leave a Christmas tree out with their bin for their first collection afterwards. The collection day of the week for garden waste is unchanged.
Adrian Smith, TDC Cabinet Member for Environment, said the council has been working with its waste contractor Veolia Environmental Services to minimise disruption.
“While we would encourage all residents to recycle as much of their waste as possible, we appreciate that extra waste can be generated by the Christmas and New Year festivities,” he said.
“Therefore, once again people may put out an extra two black bags next to their bin for the first collection after Christmas.
“The changes to the collection schedule follow the same pattern as previous years, so we hope this will be simple for households.”
People can find updated information on TDC’s Christmas services web page, which has full details of seasonal changes to services across the authority at tendringdc.uk/pages/christmas.
In an emergency which requires TDC’s assistance residents can contact the council’s Control Centre on 01255 222022, available 24/7.
