Tendring District Council reveals proposed priorities for the coming year

Residents are being urged to have their say over Tendring District Council’s (TDC) priorities for the coming year.

The council’s Cabinet has backed initial proposals for a series of highlight priorities for 2025/6 – which are aimed at helping the council to deliver its corporate plan, Our Vision, which runs until 2028.

A consultation has now been launched to give residents the chance to share their thoughts before the Cabinet makes a final decision.

The proposed highlight priorities include re-tendering and preparation for a new waste and recycling collection and street cleaning contract, delivering a savings plan for 2025/6 and developing one for 2026/7, and a review of the Tendring Local Plan - extending its timeframe to 2041 and ensuring it is in alignment with national planning policy and mandatory housebuilding targets.

The priorities also include developing plans and implementing actions in relation to a series of multi-million-pound Government-funded projects, including the new Community Regeneration Partnership in Clacton, as well as making a final decision in relation to the future of the council’s Careline Service following the exploration of third-party proposals for taking on all or part of the service.

Other priorities include reviewing the council’s use of temporary accommodation and developing a revised housing strategy to address the needs of the district, as well as developing new strategies for coastal protection and community engagement alongside the implementation of a new crime and disorder strategy and the adopted beach huts and sport and activity strategies.

Councillor Mark Stephenson, TDC Leader, said: “The council is inviting residents to have their say on our proposed highlight priorities for the upcoming year.

“We value your input and want you to help shape our district’s future - and ensure our plans meet the community's needs and aspirations.

“These priorities will help us to deliver Our Vision and, given the financial constraints faced by all councils, will help us to prioritise effectively to deliver services while remaining financially sustainable.

“During the consultation period we also hope to get a clearer picture about the possible impacts of Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation, following publication of the Government’s White Paper last month, and this will also feed into the process of setting our final priorities for the coming financial year.”

To take part in the consultation, go to www.tendringdc.gov.uk/consultations or submit your comments via email at consultations@tendringdc.gov.uk.

You may also request a paper copy of the form to be sent to you by writing to Leadership Support, Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex CO15 1SE.

The consultation runs until February 13.
