Residents are being invited to join veterans in commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
A poignant service will be hosted by Clacton Royal British Legion and Tendring District Council (TDC) at Clacton War Memorial on Thursday, 8 May, at 11am.
The service will be led by the Rev David Lower, with a reading by the Chairman of the council.
Council chairman Dan Casey, who is also President of Clacton RBL, urged the community to attend and pay their respects.
"This 80th anniversary service will be a deeply moving occasion, and I hope many will join us to honour those who fought in the conflict,” said Councillor Casey.
“Victory in Europe Day marked the end of six years of war in Europe, and we will remember those who sacrificed their lives for that victory and the freedoms we cherish today.
“We consistently have a strong turnout for these services, and with parts of Europe currently experiencing conflict, it is especially poignant to reflect on the conclusion of the Second World War on the continent.
“In addition to the service, the commemorations in Clacton will include a spectacular show at the Princes Theatre in June, offering a nostalgic tribute to those who fought for our freedom."
On 10 June at 2pm, the TDC-run theatre will host Neil Sands with his Land of Hope and Glory show, which has been specially produced to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
The patriotic and nostalgic afternoon will feature marvellous and memorable songs and favourites from the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the VE Day service on 8 May.
Clacton’s war memorial is situated in the Memorial Gardens on Marine Parade West, in the seafront gardens.
