Residents are being invited to join veterans, councillors and services organisations at a Remembrance Sunday parade and service in Clacton.
Veterans, representatives of the Armed Forces, uniformed youth organisations and others will join the parade in Clacton on Sunday, 10 November, to honour all those who have lost their lives in service.
The parade will start at Clacton Town Hall at 10.30am, with the Tendring District Council (TDC) Chairman Dan Casey and other dignitaries taking a salute, before it proceeds down to the town’s War Memorial in the seafront gardens for a Remembrance Service, led by Reverend David Lower, at 11am.
Organised by TDC and supported by the Clacton branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL), the service is open for all to attend.
Councillor Casey, who is also president of Clacton RBL, encouraged people to come along to pay their respects.
“We often witness a remarkable turnout for Clacton’s Remembrance Sunday service - and I am hopeful that this year will be no different,” he said.
“There is always a strong community spirit as we gather to honour the fallen and reflect on their sacrifice.
“The Act of Remembrance is crucial to ensure we never forget the ultimate price that many paid and the horrors of war, so we can strive to prevent such tragedies in the future.
“As the council’s Armed Forces champion and President of Clacton RBL, it will be a special honour for me to take the salute outside Clacton Town Hall in my role as Chairman of the council – and I would like to warmly welcome all residents to come along.”
Some roads around Clacton town centre will be temporarily closed to traffic on Remembrance Sunday to allow the parade to proceed safely.
These include Station Road, Pier Avenue (between the town square and Pier Gap) and a small section of Marine Parade West and Marine Parade East around the seafront gardens.
A number of other towns and villages across Tendring will be holding their own Remembrance Sunday service.
