Older residents have been given advice on staying safe at home and on the street at a special event in Clacton.
Tendring District Council (TDC) and the Tendring Community Safety Partnership (TCSP) hosted the Older Persons Crucial Crew event at the Princes Theatre on Wednesday, 19 February.
This event, aimed at those aged over 55, featured a variety of organisations offering advice on topics ranging from crime prevention and fire safety to handling power outages.
This was the first in-person event since the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was well-received by residents, who were also treated to a free buffet lunch.
Organisations participating in the event, which was opened by TDC Chairman Dan Casey, included the NHS, Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, Community Voluntary Services Tendring, Essex Adult Social Care, Neighbourhood Watch, Bill Clinic, UK Power Networks, Safer Roads Partnerships, Age Well East, and Clacton Lions.
Councillor Gina Placey, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Partnerships, said: "The Crucial Crew event empowers older residents in our district with essential safety knowledge for both home and street environments.
“By working with our partners, we were able to spotlight everyday risks and share vital safety messages which could help save lives and enhance quality of life.
“Topics included cold and hot weather precautions, flood emergency planning, fire safety, personal security, dealing with rogue traders, and handling unexpected visitors at the door.
“We had a great turnout and I’m pleased that so many of our residents got the chance to listen to valuable information and access resources to help them stay safe.”
