Reminder to have your say over multi-million-pound projects in Clacton and Dovercourt

There’s still time to have your say over proposals for multi-million-pound projects in Clacton and Dovercourt.

Consultations were launched earlier this month into plans for a new Civic Quarter, including a new civic and community space, car park and much-needed new homes, in Clacton, as well as plans for a major revamp of Dovercourt town centre.

Tendring District Council (TDC), supported by Essex County Council, was awarded almost £20 million by the Government for Clacton town centre schemes last year and £6.7million towards the £9million project in Dovercourt.

The county council is leading on plans for a multi-storey building at the existing Clacton Library site, which is set to include a brand-new library, Adult Community Learning centre, local registration services and University of Essex’s new Centre for Coastal Communities.

A separate application on the neighbouring site, led by TDC, will showcase the design and layout of 28 new homes at Carnarvon Terrace, alongside improvements to the existing High Street car park and a mixed-use civic and community space, including new creative workspaces.

There will be a joint drop-in consultation event at ACL Clacton, in St Osyth Road, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 20 July.

A separate consultation was also launched over the Dovercourt Town Centre Improvement Corridor scheme, which will see public realm improvements and a revamp of the town’s library to include Adult Community Learning.

Residents, businesses and visitors are again being urged to have their say on the TDC-led parts of the scheme, which include new housing in Victoria Street and an overhaul of the outdated Milton Road car park.

Councillor Ivan Henderson, deputy leader of TDC and Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “The proposals could see significant investment in Clacton and Dovercourt and are all about working with our partners to improve the quality of life of our residents, raising their aspirations and creating opportunities – helping residents to take real pride in our area.

“We want to hear people’s view on the plans – and there’s still time to have your say before the consultation comes to an end on Wednesday, August 7.”
