Older residents are being reminded to book ahead for a free initiative dedicated to helping people stay safe at home and on the streets.
Tendring Community Safety Partnership (TCSP) and Tendring District Council (TDC) are excited to host the Crucial Crew Event for Older Persons at the Princes Theatre in Clacton on Wednesday, 19 February, from 10am to 2pm.
This event, aimed at those aged over 55, will feature a variety of organisations offering advice on topics ranging from crime prevention and fire safety to handling power outages.
This will be the first in-person event since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event is free and includes a small buffet lunch, but tickets must be booked in advance.
Participating organisations include the NHS, Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, Community Voluntary Services Tendring, Essex Adult Social Care, Neighbourhood Watch, Bill Clinic, UK Power Networks, Safer Roads Partnerships, Age Well East, and Clacton Lions.
Councillor Gina Placey, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Chairperson of the TCSP, encouraged older people in the district to get involved.
"The Crucial Crew event is designed to empower older residents in our district with essential safety knowledge for both home and street environments.
“By collaborating with our partners, we aim to spotlight everyday risks and share vital safety messages which could help save lives and enhance quality of life.
“Topics include cold and hot weather precautions, flood emergency planning, fire safety, personal security, dealing with rogue traders, and handling unexpected visitors at the door.
“I urge older individuals to register for this event today and encourage friends or relatives to join if they could benefit from this valuable information."
Tickets are available on a first come first served basis. To reserve your free ticket call 01255 686108 or email nbaines@tendringdc.gov.uk.
