Year Six pupils from nine primary schools across Tendring were buzzing with excitement following a STEAM careers event at Clacton’s Princes Theatre.
The event, designed to ignite interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields, featured interactive workshops and engaging stalls that captivated the young attendees.
The theatre, which is run by Tendring District Council (TDC), was a hive of activity as pupils explored various hands-on displays and learned about potential career opportunities on Wednesday, 23 October.
The event, part of the Tendring Future Skills Partnership Board, was a joint initiative between the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, TDC and Essex County Council (ECC).
Councillor Gina Placey, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Partnerships, said: “It was brilliant to be able to bring Year Six pupils together with businesses and organisations, sparking their imaginations and aspirations for the future.
“The young people were excited to get hands-on with displays and hear about local career opportunities.
“Our young people are our future and we want to show them what’s on offer out there so they can take advantage of these opportunities.
“Raising aspirations and creating opportunities runs through everything we do as part of Our Vision, the council’s Corporate Plan.”
The event saw participation from a diverse range of organisations, including Colchester Zoo, Essex Police, Galloper Windfarm, Essex County Council, Hutchisons Port, Colchester Institute, the National Institute of Clinical Research, and several NHS departments such as ODP, Pharmacy Community, and Virtual Wards.
Other notable participants were Openreach, Rose Builders, STEAM Powered Education, the University of Suffolk, the University of Essex, Firstsite, Mercury Theatre and Stempoint.
Primary schools taking part in the event included All Saints Primary in Great Oakley, Harwich Community Primary, Ravens Academy in Clacton, St Andrew’s in Weeley, St George’s in Great Bromley, Tendring Primary School, Two Village Primary School in Ramsey, Market Fields School in Elmstead and Walton-on-the-Naze Primary School.
