A new map has been launched to help Tendring residents see what planning policies and restrictions apply to their local area.

The service, available on the Tendring District Council (TDC) website, collates a range of information and puts it in a single place for people to view.

It means people can explore which policies apply to which areas and where constraints such as conservation areas may apply; further details, such as Tree Preservation Orders, will be added over the coming months.

Andy Baker, TDC Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said he hoped the map would boost transparency of the planning rules for everyone.

“By making this planning information easily accessible to the public, it will empower residents and applicants to explore themselves where constraints are in place – and make better-informed decisions about their plans and what requirements they may need to meet,” Councillor Baker said.

“It adds to the wealth of online tools that existing to explain the planning process – which is complex when it comes to various legislation – and hopefully make it easier for everyone.”

The map can be found at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/services/planning.
