Clacton’s Princes Theatre is buzzing with activity as it prepares to stage four fantastic theatrical productions.

Among these exciting shows at the Tendring District Council-run (TDC) venue are the West End hits Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The Princes Theatre Youth Company is in full swing, rehearsing for Joseph, while next year they will bring Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to life, complete with a full-scale car that opens its wings and lifts off the ground.

Meanwhile, the Princes Acting Centre is gearing up for auditions for this year's performance of Beautiful Thing, a poignant 1993 British play set in a South London council estate, written by Jonathan Harvey

Looking ahead to January 2026, they have secured the licence for Come From Away, a moving musical about the events of September 11, 2001.

This play tells the story of the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, which welcomed 38 diverted international aircraft, doubling its population overnight.

The Acting Centre is also preparing its students for London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) exams, offering them recognised qualifications in the arts.

These qualifications provide valuable UCAS tariff points, which are crucial for university and college applications in the UK.

Councillor Gary Scott, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Heritage, urged people to support the area’s talent young actors by watching one of the shows.

“I’m incredibly proud that the Princes Theatre Youth Company and Princes Acting Centre currently holds four licences for upcoming theatrical productions for the first time ever – it is a fantastic achievement,” he said.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated individuals within our council-run venue, working tirelessly to create opportunities and help raise the aspirations of our local children.

“If you have never seen their productions, please join us in celebrating the incredible talent and hard work of our local youth and acting community by coming to these spellbinding shows.”
