Emergency Services Day is being marked by Tendring District Council (TDC) with the flying of a special flag.
999 day, on Saturday, 9 September, recognises the contribution made by the emergency services; police, fire, ambulance and Coastguard.
It also pays tribute to work done by other volunteer responders, such as the RNLI, St John Ambulance, Coastguard volunteers, ambulance First Responders and Special Constables.
TDC has raised the special Emergency Services Day flag at Clacton Town Hall today, and will keep it flying over the weekend.
Gary Scott, TDC Chairman, said the work of the emergency services was paramount to keeping people in the district safe.
“We owe so much to our emergency services and volunteer responders, who do so much to support us and our community,” Councillor Scott said.
“By flying this flag we are giving our thanks to them, and I hope that we can all make time on Saturday to take a moment to stop and think about their contribution.”
Emergency Services Day also encourages people to consider career and volunteer opportunities in the sector, using 999 responsibly, and to think about their own life-saving skills.
The flag shows Emergency Services Day and the event crest on the top half on a white background, and the lower half is the Union flag; it has been designed to line up with the Armed Forces Day flag to make a complete Union flag.
Clacton Town Hall will also be lit up blue for the weekend to mark the occasion.
