Community spirit continues to bloom on Dovercourt seafront

Dedicated volunteers have again been digging deep to ensure that Dovercourt seafront blooms brightly this summer.

The Dovercourt Diggers group, which was set up by Tendring District Council (TDC), has been diligently working through the winter months, preparing the ground for a new wave of planting.

Their hard work paid off on Friday as they planted trailing rosemary, ground cover conifer, and buddleia, bringing vibrant new life to the area.

A group of ten committed volunteers, including members of Community Voluntary Services Tendring, collaborated with TDC’s Open Spaces Team to carry out this latest phase of the project.

Their ongoing efforts are transforming a previously overgrown section of the town’s cliffs, near the Pavilion restaurant off Marine Parade, into a welcoming green space.

Councillor Mick Barry, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Public Realm, said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, Community Voluntary Service Tendring and our hardworking Open Spaces Team for their continued efforts to improve this area of the cliffs in Dovercourt.

“Championing our local environment is at the heart of everything that we do and it is wonderful to see works taking place to make our seafront even more attractive for residents and visitors alike.

“The involvement of local people in maintaining our open spaces helps to foster a real sense of community pride.”

Last year the group helped to plant new olive trees at the site alongside creating a small garden next to the clifftop shelter opposite Orwell Road.

The council team also replaced slabs at the shelter and installed a new ramp to ensure it is accessible.
