Clacton Trax Skatepark Grand Opening Announced

Skatepark

The newly reconstructed Clacton Trax Skatepark will reopen to the public with a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony and exhilarating skate jam this Friday.

The event, organised by the contractor Betongpark, is taking place at the Clacton Trax Skatepark next to Clacton Leisure Centre on Friday, 11 August, from 2pm until 6:30pm and everyone is invited.

Free introductory sessions will be available on the day with Betongpark providing skateboards, helmets and pads, whilst DJs will liven up the festivity.

Councillor Mark Stephenson, Leader of Tendring District Council, will open the proceedings with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2pm.

A skate jam will commence from 2:30pm to 6:30pm, led by an expert team of skaters who will guide skateboard, inline skate, scooter, and BMX riders from beginner to experienced levels through every element in the park, providing a prize for the best trick.

Funded by Tendring District Council (TDC) the £255,000 new skatepark offers a variety of transition features such as a bowled mini ramp with extension and quarter pipe hip, as well as a spacious street section with feature pyramid and step up.

Councillor Mick Barry, TDC Cabinet Member for Leisure & Public Realm, said the new facility would be a great asset to skaters from across Tendring and wheeled sport tourism.

“We are really excited to reopen this facility which supports vibrant, healthy communities,” said Councillor Barry.

“The skatepark will offer a safe space for wheeled sports whilst promoting the benefits of physical activity for those not involved in traditional team sports.”

A community planting event has been organised by Betonpark for Tuesday, 8 and Wednesday, 9 August from 11am to 4pm. Volunteers are requested to wear suitable clothing and footwear and will be provided with tools and refreshments. Anyone interested should email: infouk@betongpark.no

Stuart Maclure, Development Manager at Betongpark said after years of closure, we are so excited to welcome back the local community into Clacton skatepark.

“Building on the site of the former skatepark, the Betongpark team have utilised the planting and landscaping of the area to create a modern, well-spaced skatepark in a green setting,” Mr Maclure said.

“The public consultation and continuous involvement with the local user group has made this project really special for us. Aspects of the design directly informed by consultation include the varying heights of the transition area and placement of the down rail/hubba, ledge, banks and wall ride.

“We look forward to skating it with everyone.”
