Chance to have your say on future of heritage in five parts of Tendring

Five further areas in Tendring will be able to have their say on how heritage is protected locally.

Tendring District Council (TDC) is developing a series of Conservation Area Appraisals, reviewing places which already have a heritage designation, to ensure they still work for those areas.

Conservation Areas contain details of why they are special places, and also set forward management proposals. Planning applications within a Conservation Area have additional criteria to be considered against.

TDC has already completed these for several areas, and is now looking for the public’s views on appraisals of five more areas: Great Clacton, Lawford, Brightlingsea Hall (the north of the town around All Saints’ Church), Great Oakley and Kirby-le-Soken.

Draft Conservation Area Character Appraisals and Management Plans have been backed by TDC’s Planning Policy and Local Plan Committee and Cabinet, and are now out for public consultation.

Andy Baker, TDC Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, encouraged both people who live in these areas but also those from right across Tendring to review the draft appraisals and give their views.

“Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans allow us to protect the beautiful and historic places we have in our district for the future,” Councillor Baker said.

“We really welcome views from local residents about these Conservation Area Appraisals and I would urge you to take part in this consultation.”

A six-week consultation began on Monday (15 January) and people have until 5pm on Monday, 26 February to have their say; complete the consultation at www.tendringdc.gov.uk/consultations.

In addition, drop-in consultation events are being held at the following locations and time for people to learn more:

  • St Michael’s Church Hall, The Street, Kirby-le-Soken: Tuesday, 23 January, 3-7pm
  • Parish Hall, Victoria Place, Brightlingsea: Thursday, 25 January, 3-7pm
