Are you an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) /Practitioner (EHP) looking for a new venture or fresh challenge?

Tending District Council are currently in the process of looking for an enthusiastic, fully qualified Environmental Health Officer / Practitioner to join our established Food & Safety team based in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

This is an excellent opportunity to put your EHO knowledge to use, learn more and to undertake a varied role where no two days are the same in a diverse urban, coastal and rural district. The department has undergone a restructure and this is a chance to join the team under a supportive, experienced manager and other qualified Environmental Health professionals. It is a knowledgeable and extremely friendly team where advice and support of all colleagues is always forthcoming. Officers who are currently undertaking qualifications, or those who have just qualified and are looking to gain experience working in Food & Safety will also be considered for the post. There may be an opportunity to undertake further training for the right candidate, and Tendring is always looking to invest in staff development to ensure Service resilience.

We cover all aspects of Food Health & Safety, as well as Animal Welfare & Beauty Licensing. You will find yourself carrying out ship sanitation inspections at Harwich International Port, Mistley Port & Harwich Ports, as well as obtaining water and shellfish samples from the Oyster Beds along our coastlines. Working in these areas is something that can broaden your existing knowledge base, whilst giving you the ability to work in areas that are not available with all other Local Authorities.

Another integral part of the role will be dealing with inspections, complaints, investigations, port health, and the registration of new businesses in the district; whilst providing help and advice to our diverse local businesses, residents and consumers.

It is important for the successful candidate to be fully food competent and have a solid knowledge of food safety & health and safety legislation.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • A CIEH accredited Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health;
  • Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health as a fully qualified EHO would be an advantage;
  • Experience of working in a complex and diverse organisation undertaking functions relevant to the functions and duties in the Job Description;
  • Having a sound professional background and demonstrable success through effective and productive working relationships;
  • Able to operate MS-Word, Excel & Outlook;
  • The ability to travel around the district independently (own vehicle);
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

A discretionary market forces supplement will only be applied for a qualified registered EHO /EHP with a CIEH – Certification of Registration, or where the individual has gained either the Higher Certificate in Food Control, or the Advanced Certificate in Food Hygiene Control. Officers who have just qualified will be given the opportunity to gain further experience and undertake training to increase their salary one in post.
