Working at the Elections
If you are 18 and over and interested in working at the general election, then we are always looking for people to help.
With the general election on Thursday, 4 July we need to staff up so that 160,000residents (18 years old and over) can vote in the 105 polling stations we will be providing in the towns and villages of Tendring District. We then need to count all the votes cast so that the result can be announced. During an election, we have various jobs that you could help us with:
Presiding Officers are responsible for the conduct of the ballot in the polling stations and they must have a good knowledge of the voting procedure. On 4 July you will need to work from 6.15am until 10.30pm.
Poll Clerks assist the Presiding Officer in the conduct of the ballot in the polling stations. No previous experience needed, full training will be provided. On 4 July you will need to work from 6.30am until 10.15pm. Being able to drive and having access to a car is a pre-requisite.
Count Assistants in a team will open ballot boxes, verify to the accounts and then count the votes for each candidate in the elections. Great care must be taken to ensure that mistakes are not made. No previous experience needed, full training will be provided. The count venue is in Clacton-on-Sea and will start at 10pm on 4 July and will continue into the early hours of the morning. If the count continues to 4am the hourly rate means you will be paid £125 before tax. Refreshments will also be provided for those working.
