Everything you need to know

Tendring District Council has successfully secured Government funding for the delivery of a new Civic Quarter for Clacton.

Working closely with our partners Essex County Council, the site of Carnarvon House and the town library will see: a new and improved library and learning space; community spaces; University of Essex Centre for Coastal Communities; new homes; creation of new units for entrepreneurs and improvements to the multi-storey car park. The Council has now successfully procured an industry-leading design team to deliver exciting and transformational improvements to the site of Carnarvon House. Over the coming weeks and months, the council and partners will be developing the detailed brief and designs for delivering new housing and facilities on site.

The projects were chosen from the Love Clacton vision as the best fit for the Government funding opportunity. Tendring District Council's project will provide:

  • 28 new homes along Carnarvon Road: including 11 social homes.
  • Provision of community space to provide civic services for residents.
  • A remodelled car park with up to 30 EV chargers.

The funding is a significant opportunity to deliver positive improvements in Clacton, provide of valuable civic services for residents, and supply decent housing that everyone deserves.
