Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reconsideration

There are different rules depending on whether you get Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.

Housing Benefit Reconsideration

You must ask for a Housing Benefit Reconsideration within one month of the date of your decision.

Once you have asked for a reconsideration we will write to you to tell you whether we have changed or kept our original decision.

Council Tax Reduction Reconsideration

There is no time limit, but we would suggest that you ask for the reconsideration within one month of the date of our decision letter.

We have two months to reply to you. If, after we have replied to you, you are still not happy with our decision, you can appeal with the Valuation Tribunal. This must be done within two months of the date of our reconsideration decision letter to you.

If we do not reply to your request within two months you can appeal directly to the Valuation Tribunal without waiting for our reply.
