Tendring District Council supports Baby Loss Awareness Week 2024

Tendring District Council (TDC) has once again shown its support for Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Running from 9 to 15 October, the week – now in its 22nd year – aims to unite those affected by baby loss.

For the sixth year, the council has been proud to host a ribbon display along the Clacton Seafront Memorial Gardens – which also contains a special tree dedicated to commemorating baby loss.

Ribbons, crocheted items and teddy bears are added to the fence in a display which gives bereaved people an opportunity to remember young loved ones they have lost, and raise awareness of the issue.

The display is organised by 2023 Pride of Tendring winner Maria Gormley in partnership with Sands – a stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

Dan Casey, TDC Chairman, emphasised the importance of community support during Baby Loss Awareness Week.

“The ribbon display is a powerful reminder of the many families who have experienced the loss of a baby, including myself,” Councillor Casey said.

“It’s a visual testament to the fact that no one has to go through this alone. Our community stands together to offer support and compassion to those who are grieving – and there are a lot more people grieving in this way than you might believe.

“We hope that by coming together, we can help to raise awareness and provide comfort to those who need it most.”

Clacton Town Hall was also lit up in blue and pink on the final day of Baby Loss Awareness Week as part of the Wave of Light initiative.
