Introduction

Dovercourt is a peaceful family resort with gentle shelving sand and shingle beaches including the landmark, historic Leading Lights.  A wide range of family activities are available along the promenade including an impressive range of sport and leisure facilities including a skate park, model yacht pond and boating lake.  The resort enjoys panoramic views of Harwich, the Port of Felixstowe and Hamford Water National Nature Reserve.  Enjoy a stroll around the narrow streets in the historic town of Harwich or walk along the seawall to the nature reserve with its resident seals.

The nearest bus stop is located on Fronks Road. The post code for this is CO12 3RH.

Car Parks

The nearest car parks are listed below:

Lower Marine Parade Car Park operates with pay and display and does have blue badge holder spaces.

West End Lane Car Park is free and does not have blue badge holder spaces

Lower Marine Parade Car Park has 150 spaces. West End Lane Car Park has 30 spaces.

There is also minimal on street parking available close to the awards beach.

Access

The best access on the promenade for disabled and pram users is either at West end Lane, by Dovercourt bay leisure centre, to the right of boating lake or by the gate at the lower lighthouses. Access to Dovercourt award beach for all users is by a slope that leads onto the beach. There are also many step access points along the award beach.

Areas Adjacent to the Beach  

The promenade consists of a hard paved surface extending the length of the awards beach.

Vehicular access is only available onto the promenade between 6pm and 10am.

The Beach Office is located on the promenade up from the main slope next to the path onto the promenade. It is in between the boating lake and sheltered shelter on the greensward.

There is seating available sporadically along the promenade. There is also a sheltered seating section available on the greensward next to the promenade.

On the promenade dogs must be kept on leads and under control.

Our promenade here is a considerate cycling area with a clear line to define the section for cyclists and pedestrians.

On the Beach  

The award beach is the section between the light houses and the groyne after the second slipway towards West End Lane. There are multiple groynes between this to help control coastal erosion. Additionally, there is a slipway for the use of launching watercraft.

First aid is available from the Wardens when operating. They operate from May Half Term to the end of the summer school holidays, during school holidays and weekends. The hours are 11am – 5pm.

This award beach is a designated dog free zone area from May to September. This is clearly marked on the map which can be found on the Beach Information Board at the entrance to the beach. It is also signposted along the sea wall at the access points onto the beach.

There are no gas barbeques allowed on the beach.

Please take your litter home.

Public Toilets

The nearest public toilet is located on Lower Marine Paradenext to the amusements and Beach café. This does have disabled toilets or babychanging facilities available.

There is also a public toilet is located next to West EndLane car park. This has disabled toilets available.

There is a changing places facility located a short distancealong the Promenade. This is next to the path leading towards the LeisureCentre. To access this facility, please fillin the Access Key application form.

Food and Drink Outlets

There is a Café with seating available next to the main public toilets which is on the other side of the road to the awards beach.

There is also a restaurant located on the other side of the road from the lighthouses.

Drinks and snacks can also be purchased from the leisurecentre.

Additional Information

Dogs are not allowed on the award-winning beach from May to September except for Guide Dogs.

The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit is located at Clacton-On-Sea.  The address is Clacton & District Hospital, Tower Road, Clacton-on-Sea CO15 1LH.
