A court summons has been served on Travellers who set up camp on Walton’s Columbine Centre overflow car park.

The group was initially served with a Direction to Leave on Wednesday but remain on land owned by Tendring District Council (TDC).

The Essex Countywide Traveller Unit (ECTU) served the summons from North Essex Magistrates this morning.

Paul Honeywood, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said that it is likely that the group will leave before the date of the court hearing set for Monday.

“The agreed processes are being followed and we now have to wait to see if and when the group leave,” he said.

“Once the group has left we’ll send in a team to ensure that any mess left behind is cleared,” he added.
