Hopes of converting and extending a small barn into a new home in Bradfield have been dashed.
The scheme was put forward for a site in Mill Lane but rejected by Tendring District Council (TDC).
It was also strongly opposed by Bradfield Parish Council as overdevelopment of a small building which would be out of proportion with its surroundings.
TDC decided that it was not a sustainable development and the changes would overwhelm the existing structure, eroding the barn-like appearance.
It was considered that it would cause significant harm to the character of the surrounding area which would not be outweighed by any benefits.
With a five year supply of housing land already identified, the development was also seen as unnecessary.
