Hopes of building nine new homes on land in Thorpe have been dashed.
The scheme for behind a property in Colchester Road involved removing a number of sheds and two mobile homes used in connection with a timber business.
They would be replaced with nine homes with access from Colchester Road.
The site is outside the settlement development boundary for the village and there are more sustainable sites available in the area.
It was felt the proposal would lead to further urbanisation of a semi-rural location and would be an unwelcome intrusion into the countryside.
It would also be harmful to the character of the landscape and failed the environmental criteria of sustainability.
Thorpe Parish Council opposed the development and four other letters of objection were received.
TDC is also in a position where it has a five year housing land supply identified.
