Moves to expand car parking facilities at Walton and Frinton Yacht Club have been given the all-clear.
The trust that runs the club wants to excavate part of the yacht basin in Mill Lane down to the river bed and use the spoil to create an extra 16 spaces. There are currently four.
The aim is to avoid people parking indiscriminately along the access roads around the marina.
The new area of car park will be topped with hard core and retained by a concrete panel wall held in place by beam metal piles. The wall will be capped with steel capping.
Tendring District Council (TDC) has approved the scheme as it fits with the Council’s policies to promote and expand water-based recreation facilities and encourage tourism where there is no visual harm.
A TDC spokesman said: “Whilst the removal of the material will lose some moorings from the centre of the basin these will be recreated around the edge. The additional open water will aid manoeuvring of craft within the basin.”
The new car park will be 50 metres away from the nearest neighbours and will not generate noise issues.
Frinton and Walton Town Council supported the application and there have been no objections from neighbours.
